MN TRIO Scholarship Opportunities

MN TRIO is happy to announce the 2021 MN TRIO Scholarship competition! Below you will find detailed information and application materials for the MN TRIO Scholarships. Eligible TRIO Student Nominees have a chance to win a $1000 scholarship!

Applicants will receive an email confirmation upon submission and receipt. 


Pre-College MN TRIO Program Application Scholarships

  • EOC, Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math & Science, and Veterans Upward Bound applicants: up to six (6) scholarships are available at $1,000 each.

College MN TRIO Program Scholarships

  • Student Support Services, Student Support Services Veterans, Student Support Services Disability, and McNair applicants: up to six (6) scholarships are available at $1,000 each.


Next Steps: 

Directors, nominators, and student applicants will be notified no later than Friday, April 16, 2021 of the status of the application. The MN TRIO Scholarships will be distributed via check in August/September 2020 contingent upon proof of registration at a post-secondary or graduate institution. Requirements for Nominator: 

Only TWO applications PER project/grant will be accepted. To be considered for the MN TRIO scholarship, the nominator MUST be a current member of EOA and MN TRIO at the time of scholarship deadline. We encourage you to verify your membership by logging in to or email the MN TRIO President-Elect at, prior to submitting your nomination. 



Student Eligibility: 

The student applicant must meet the following criteria to apply:

  1. Current participant in a TRIO program.
  2. Nominated by a TRIO professional.
  3. Received their high school diploma or will be receiving it in spring or summer of 2021.
  4. Student must be either:
  1. a high school senior planning to enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution in fall 2021 OR
  2. attending a two-year or four-year accredited post-secondary institution with plans to continue for fall 2021 OR
  3. a senior college student planning to enroll in an accredited graduate school institution for fall 2021

     5. Student must write an essay that fully addresses the question: How has TRIO influenced your life, and how has TRIO supported you in setting and achieving your goals?     

     6. Student must provide proof of enrollment for fall 2020 in order for funds to be distributed.
     7. GPA Requirement of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale. 


Application Materials: 

The nominator must submit the following (PDF) materials in order for their application to be considered complete: 

Copy of resume

Letter of Recommendation from TRIO Nominator (The nominator must be an EOA and MN TRIO member at time of scholarship deadline.) 
Copy of unofficial academic transcript
Signature Page/Consent Form
One typed essay written by student addressing the question: h
ow has TRIO influenced your life, and how has TRIO supported you in setting and achieving your  (Essay must adhere to the following: limit of 650 words, 12-point font, double-spaced with no smaller than .5 margins)

Incomplete applications will not be considered or scored. 
No additional materials beyond those requested will be considered. Application window will open by February 1st, 2021.

EOA Scholarship Opportunities for MN TRIO


IO's parent organization, the Educational Opportunity Association (EOA) offers scholarships to eligible TRIO and educational opportunity program participants. Scholarships are awarded throughout the region on a rotating basis.
